With the American Airlines app, you’re covered with the information you need exactly when you need it. Need a mobile boarding pass? Wondering where the closest Admirals Club® lounge is located? All of this info, and more, is available at your fingertips.
I downloaded the AA App to my Android in order to check in and use the mobile boarding pass. I noticed it had a feature to upgrade seating so I used it to move 9 rows from the back of the plane to an aisle seat from Dallas to Costa Rica. I did this for both my wife and I. The app showed this upgrade to be something like $28.50 per seat. When I checked out I noticed it charged me $66.99. I thought two upgrades and potentially tax, fine.
When I got home to my computer I noticed it charged be the $66.99 per seat. I emailed AA and received a call and talked with an agent that asked if I got a confirmation prior to final check out on the app. I told her I did not and had I certainly would not have paid $66.99 per seat to move 9 rows. She paused and simply said she was sorry that since the purchase was finalized a refund was not possible.
Oddly when I got home from my trip I had an email showing a refund for this leg of the trip for $28.50 . . . no clue.
Once on the plane the exit seats across the row were empty and the flight attendant allowed two teenagers who appeared to be around 16 years old to simply move up into these empty seats.
My suggestion is to not use the android app to upgrade seats what so ever and to simply wait to get on board and ask to move into the more expensive seats.
Further I never did get the app to work as a mobile boarding pass. It would not allow me to do so.
